Questions

The honest answers.

Do I need an Apple Watch?

No, and the app is careful about saying so. Nutrition, journal, water, the calendar, the checklist and the coach all work on the phone alone. Recovery and strain need heart rate and HRV data, which in practice means a Watch or another device writing to Apple Health. When that data is missing, Life OS labels the reading as rough or absent instead of inventing a number.

Does it replace Apple Health, or sit on top of it?

On top. Life OS reads a wide set of Health types and writes back workouts, active energy, bodyweight, water and every nutrient it logs, each behind its own switch in Settings. If you stop using Life OS tomorrow, everything it wrote is still in Health, in the same place Apple keeps it.

Where does my data actually live?

On your iPhone, and in your own private iCloud database if you leave sync on. There is no Life OS account server storing a copy of your health history. The only things that ever leave the device are a photo you choose to scan, sent to an identification service and not kept there, and, if you use the coach, the specific context lines for that conversation.

Is the meal scanning accurate?

It is accurate enough to be useful, and honest about when it is not. An on-device classifier is tried first, a cloud model second, and the result opens for review before it is logged so you can correct a portion. When a food name is not in the lookup tables and the model claims a near-zero calorie count, the app shows it as a low-confidence guess rather than a confident wrong answer. A scan that fails should look like a failure.

What does the AI coach get to see?

Exactly what you allow. "May read my Health data" is a real switch that genuinely gates the health block of the context. Anything the app does not have is omitted rather than sent as a zero. The coach can also take about twenty actions on your behalf, such as setting a target, logging water or adding a task, all bounded on device, reported back in plain words, and none of them destructive.

Is the sleep score just a rebadged Apple number?

No. It is computed in the app from stage data, out of four separately weighted components, and it renormalises over whichever of them your night actually measured rather than scoring an unmeasured component as zero. Sleep need is dynamic too: a base figure adjusted for training load, outstanding debt, and whether your resting heart rate or breathing rate has drifted above your own 30 day baseline.

Can I subscribe to Pro right now?

Yes — in the app, or from the web if you would rather pay by card without an App Store account. Both unlock the same thing. The 14 days with everything unlocked is also live and starts at first launch, no subscription needed to see it. The pricing page has the numbers.

Can I cancel, and what happens to what I logged?

A subscription is cancelled any time in your Apple account settings, and it runs to the end of the period you paid for. Nothing you logged is deleted. History past the free window is hidden rather than removed, and it comes back in full if you subscribe again.

Is this medical advice?

No. Life OS is a wellbeing and fitness tool, not a medical device and not a diagnostic. The sleep score is arithmetic on what your Watch recorded, the recovery figure is a weighted comparison against your own history, and neither is a clinical assessment. If something about your health worries you, talk to a doctor.
